In cataract lens surgery, eye surgeons need a method to calculate the lens power for the patient they're working on. With myriad calculation devices, formulae, and methods available, eye surgeons relied on a hodgepodge of technologies including handheld devices and fax machines to calculate and procure materials, often over-stocking inventory to compensate for errors in the process.

Working with a team of eye surgeons, Viallo's Rocky Hessler designed and led development of EYEQueue, the first web-based system to calculate lens powers, procure lenses direct from manufacturers, and store patient data.

EYEQueue honed the process to one seamless activity, improving efficiency and driving down procurement costs for clinics and processing costs for manufacturers like Bausch & Lomb, Allergan, and Alcon. Working closely with end users, Hessler and developers crafted the interface for an easy learning curve while achieving robust functionality. The intense process forged much of Viallo's current interface design standards and user experience work.
