Newaukum Launches StorySpot.com for Campus Crusade
International college campus ministry creates innovative way for students to tell personal stories of God's redemption.
SEATTLE, WA, June 2, 2003 newaukum, Inc., the Seattle-based website design and development services firm today announced they successfully launched StorySpot.com, a new website for college students to explore and write about God's role in their life story, then publish to a personalized page for friends and family to see. The site is a pilot project that Campus Crusade for Christ staff member and StorySpot.com Director David Hand hopes will grow far beyond the Southeast region he oversees.
"We see this going beyond our ministry to others who see value in personal stories of real experiences with God in people's lives as an outreach tool. Personal stories are powerful," he said. "What's the greatest story ever told? It's The Story of God pursuing and loving an undeserving lot. It's a marvelous story of redemption. When He touches someone's life, there's always a story to tell. Every story, given a proper platform, has great potential to connect with others who don't know God - reaching into their lives as well."
Newaukum teamed up with Domain7, a leading Internet applications developer to create a complex system of dynamic modules that lead StorySpot authors through a writing tutorial and personal page creation wizard with hooks for photos, personalized designs, and streaming video. The site tackles tough subjects like depression, eating disorders, substance abuse, and suicide, and provides a search layer for users to read StorySpots addressing personally meaningful issues.
Because of StorySpot's sensitive nature and myriad risks for site misuse, a multi-layered permission and authorization system was needed.
"We had nothing to compare this project with," said Rocky Hessler, Director of Client Services for newaukum. "It was a fun challenge to work closely with the Campus Crusade team, exploring the complexities of their vision, laying out a plan, and getting it done within their tight deadline and budget constraints. I see it as a real feather in our cap as a project execution, but the real satisfaction comes from enabling a cause we believe in. The motivation of this project is the message that life can be confusing and tough, but God is real, He cares and wants to help."
Along with the site build, newaukum and Domain7 deployed a custom content management system that Campus Crusade staff use to respond to feedback and enhance the site during the critical year-long pilot phase, all deployed on the client's remote servers in Atlanta.
"StorySpot.com is a great example of the sort of great things newaukum and Domain7 can accomplish," said Shawn Neumann, President of Domain7. "We enjoyed this project for the tactical challenges and our role in furthering the Campus Crusade mission."
David Hand added, "Almost in a bend-over-backwards fashion, they have been responsive to our very unique needs as a non-profit organization as well as the high standards we have for the project. They deliver an excellent product and service. The site continues to grow in complexity and yet they continue to deliver rapid solutions to evolving deployment issues."
